Chelsea 'among Premier League clubs interested in Villarreal player'

Chelsea are reportedly among a number of Premier League clubs who are interested in Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

The Blues are allegedly on the brink of acquiring the services of Enzo Maresca as their new head coach on a long-term deal.

However, Chelsea's recruitment team will oversee their transfer business in the summer window with the view of signing players suited to Maresca's style of play.

Reports have indicated that the Italian is eager to have a goalkeeper at his disposal who is strong with his feet, an attribute required to start Chelsea's attacks from the back.

As it stands, Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez are the players that the likely new Chelsea boss has as his options for the new campaign, unless changes are made in that department.

Jorgensen on Chelsea's radar

According to Relevo, Chelsea are contemplating whether to make contact with Villarreal regarding the acquisition of Jorgensen.

The report says Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested in negotiating a deal for the 22-year-old.

Jorgensen - a Sweden-born Denmark Under-21 international - has a contract with the Yellow Submarine until the end of the 2026-27 campaign, theoretically making it difficult for any interested clubs to negotiate a deal.

Nevertheless, despite Villarreal missing out on European football for next season, Jorgensen's stock has only risen with 36 starts coming in La Liga.

Villarreal would also significantly bolster their financial position in the eyes of UEFA with a sale courtesy of Jorgensen having come through the academy system.

Which of the three clubs require a new goalkeeper?

As well as Petrovic and Sanchez, Chelsea also have Gabriel Slonina waiting in the wings to try to make an impression in the senior ranks, although that may not come until 2025 at the earliest.

From Newcastle's perspective, they are seemingly in the market for competition for Nick Pope having also been linked with an English prospect.

Wolves, meanwhile, have Jose Sa as their established number one, but the Portugal international could attract admirers from Europe and Saudi Arabia.

While Wolves may wish to upgrade on Daniel Bentley as their number two, their financial situation means they would not spend big money on another goalkeeper unless they cashed in on Sa. body check tags ::
