Marseille have rejected a bid from Champions League winners Chelsea for Cesar Azpilicueta, according to reports.
The Blues have been credited with an interest in the defender for most of the summer following the release of Jose Bosingwa at the end of last season.
However, The Sun have reported that an offer of £5m has been rebuffed by the French club as they are believed to value the 22-year-old at closer to £8m.
Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is eager to sign a new right-back before the beginning of the Premier League season to relieve some of the pressure placed on Branislav Ivanovic, who prefers to play in a central role.
Chelsea are now expected to increase their offer for Spain international Azpilicueta.
