Chelsea are reportedly attempting to sign Napoli forward Dries Mertens before the end of the January transfer window.
With Mertens having less than six months remaining on his contract, the 32-year-old is free to hold discussions with foreign clubs ahead of a switch in the summer.
However, according to the Daily Mail, the Blues are hoping to convince Napoli into a sale before the end of the month.
Despite the Belgium international's importance at the Serie A outfit, Chelsea are allegedly looking to sign the player for just £6m.
Mertens has contributed nine goals and three assists from 22 outings in Italy's top flight and the Champions League this season, meaning that Napoli may see value in keeping him until the end of the campaign.
Chelsea wish to sign a new striker in the coming days in order to allow Olivier Giroud to leave Stamford Bridge.
