Chelsea are reportedly moving closer to the acquisition of Barcelona youngster Marc Guiu.
The Blues have been heavily linked with a wide array of frontmen since their recruitment team wrapped up a deal for Enzo Maresca, who left his head-coach role at Leicester City to move to Stamford Bridge.
However, it has been alleged that co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are yet to edge nearer to any of their senior targets.
Instead, Aston Villa academy graduate Omari Kellyman seems the most likely next addition to the ranks at the West Londoners in a £19m deal.
Kellyman could find himself loaned out soon after his big-money arrival, yet it remains to be seen how Chelsea would handle the future of Guiu.
Chelsea nearing Guiu transfer
According to AS, Boehly and Clearlake have triggered the release clause of the prospect.
The 18-year-old allegedly has a £5m option in his contract at Camp Nou, one which Chelsea are more than happy to activate.
Chelsea's hierarchy are now in the process of discussing a long-term contract with the teenager, who has made just seven appearances for the Catalan giants.
Guiu netted just 33 seconds into his debut with Barcelona last season, with another strike coming in the Champions League fixture with Royal Antwerp.
Nevertheless, he would barely feature under Xavi during the second half of the campaign, while Barcelona are happy to generate some much-needed income to bolster their financial position with La Liga.
Can Guiu challenge for Chelsea spot?
As it stands, Chelsea's only central-attacking option for 2024-25 is Nicolas Jackson, with Armando Broja expected to be sold over the coming weeks.
Christopher Nkunku is more likely to be used in a deeper role, and it leaves the West Londoners in urgent need to add another face for the middle of their frontline.
That said, it is plausible that Deivid Washington or Guiu will be loaned out to Strasbourg, also owned by BlueCo, for next season. body check tags ::
