Chelsea are reportedly maintaining a keen interest in securing the services of Victor Osimhen, despite rumours suggesting that Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign the Napoli forward.
During the summer transfer window, the striker was strongly linked with a departure from Napoli; however, given that he is under contract until 2025, the club were asking for a fee of approximately £150m.
Osimhen and Napoli found themselves at odds recently when the club seemingly ridiculed the forward in a peculiar social media video shared through their official account.
TeamTalk reports that Chelsea's transfer committee is determined to acquire a new striker in 2024, but it is uncertain whether this move will materialise in January or during the summer transfer window.
The report also notes that while there is no assurance that the Nigerian international will become a Chelsea player, he is someone the club has been monitoring closely and continues to track.
Napoli won the Serie A title last season with Osimhen featuring as a standout performer, scoring 26 goals and providing five assists in 32 league appearances while also bagging five goals in six Champions League games.
Under Todd Boehly's ownership, Chelsea's financial capabilities seem limitless, which could pose a significant challenge to Liverpool, who were rumoured to have agreed on a deal to sign Osimhen next year.
Last summer, Liverpool turned down a £150m bid from Al-Ittihad for Mohamed Salah, but it is understood that the Saudi Pro League giants are gearing up for another attempt to sign the Egyptian in 2024.
There are also growing concerns that, by then, Liverpool may be compelled to accept the offer, given that Salah will be entering the final year of his current deal at Anfield. body check tags ::
