Chelsea may allegedly consider making an approach for Brighton & Hove Albion playmaker Leandro Trossard during the January transfer window.
While the Belgium international has always been highly regarded at other clubs, he has significantly enhanced his reputation during 2022-23.
The 27-year-old has contributed seven goals and one assist from his 12 starts in the Premier League, his latest strike coming against Chelsea on Saturday.
Four of his six other efforts came against Liverpool and Manchester City, his impressive scoring rate coming from a variety of different positions.
Although Trossard is arguably Brighton's key man, the Seagulls find themselves in an increasingly vulnerable position with regards to his future.
Trossard's current contract is due to expire in the summer, with Brighton possessing the option to extend those terms by a further 12 months, but the in-demand player may be currently unwilling to pen a deal past the end of next season.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Chelsea board were interested onlookers when the Blues faced Brighton at the weekend.
Chelsea have already acquired many of Graham Potter's backroom staff from the Amex Stadium, and reports have recently suggested that at least one player may be targeted in the upcoming transfer windows.
Potter is an admirer of Moises Caicedo, who Brighton allegedly value in the region of £85m, with Trossard seemingly representing a more straightforward option in the transfer market.
Trossard has previously indicated that he would welcome the opportunity to move to a club the size of Chelsea, providing that he is regarded as a first-team player.
Speaking to reporters, he said: "Our coach has now left for Chelsea, but speculations about me following him are pointless. If the opportunity arises, I want to go. But I do want to play and not sit on the couch.
Since leaving Genk for Brighton in June 2019, Trossard has contributed 25 goals and 13 assists from his 116 appearances in all competitions.
Trossard is also in line to be included in Belgium's World Cup squad after making appearances in each of their six UEFA Nations League fixtures since June. body check tags ::
