Chelsea reportedly have plans to target a new centre-back and centre-forward during the January transfer window.
Since the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino, the progress can only be described as mixed, with the Blues combining encouraging performances with sometimes looking incapable of scoring goals.
The latest occurrence of that came on Saturday as the Blues, despite dominating the first half, succumbed by a 2-0 scoreline at home to Brentford.
That followed a game where they gave up a two-goal lead at home to Arsenal, the current result leaving Chelsea in 11th position in the Premier League standings after 10 matches.
Pochettino's side continue to face a run of testing fixtures, with their next encounter coming at Tottenham Hotspur who occupy a two-point lead at the summit.
Furthermore, at a time when the top seven in the table have all scored at least 22 goals, Chelsea have just 13 to their name, with Raheem Sterling the leading marksman with three strikes.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the club's recruitment team are already discussing making moves for a new frontman, as well as a fresh face for the backline.
Summer signing Nicolas Jackson has contributed just two goals from nine outings in the top flight, with Armando Broja has been restricted to 122 minutes of action upon his return from a serious knee injury.
While Pochettino is hopeful that Christopher Nkunku will soon be available for selection, there is still seemingly a desire for the West Londoners to have another striker in their ranks.
Of those linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, putting forward a proposal for Brentford's Ivan Toney appears most likely, but the market is likely to be thoroughly assessed.
Meanwhile, Romano adds that Chelsea are continuing to monitoring a number of centre-backs ahead of possibly further strengthening that position.
Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah are all viewed as current options in the squad.
Nevertheless, veteran Silva may leave at the end of the season, Fofana is sidelined for the majority of the season as a bare minimum with a knee injury and Chalobah is expected to depart for a new club in January. body check tags ::
