Edouard Mendy has reportedly rejected the chance to sign a six-year contract at Chelsea, with the goalkeeper unhappy with the wages that have been placed on the table.

The Senegal international still has another two and a half years left to run on his agreement at Stamford Bridge, but the club have been in discussions with his representatives over a new deal.

According to The Sun, Chelsea placed a six-year contract on the table, but it was rejected by Mendy, who believed that the wages offered were 'disrespectful'.

The report claims that the 30-year-old currently earns around £100,000 a week, but he wants a deal worth in the region of £200,000, which would take him level with Kepa Arrizabalaga.

"Edouard is back at Chelsea and he is ready to play. But there is a feeling that the contract situation is just going nowhere," the newspaper quotes a source as saying.

"Edouard has won some huge trophies for Chelsea - but there is a sense that he is not being shown enough respect by the club over a new deal."

AC Milan, Nice and Monaco are said to be keeping a close eye on the situation in the event that he pushes for a move away from Stamford Bridge next year.

Mendy has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup during his time at Chelsea, representing the club on 104 occasions in all competitions.

The Senegal international was the club's undisputed number one during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns, while he has played nine times this season.

Kepa could come back into the XI once he has returned to fitness, potentially leaving Mendy having to accept a reduced role at the club in the second half of the season.

Mendy lost his role as number one to Kepa in October, but the latter then picked up an injury that allowed the former to feature in the team's last three Premier League matches.

Chelsea struggled for form ahead of the break for the World Cup, losing each of their last three Premier League matches to Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

The Blues have actually only picked up two points from their last five league games, with their last victory in England's top flight coming away to Aston Villa on October 16.

Graham Potter's side will be bidding to return to winning ways when they host Bournemouth on December 27. body check tags ::
