Cesc Fabregas denies suggestions that he is trying to convince Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona in a £200m move to Chelsea.

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has rubbished suggestions that he is trying to lure Barcelona star Lionel Messi to Stamford Bridge.

Questions have been asked about the four-time Ballon d'Or winner's future at Camp Nou following reports of an alleged bust-up with coach Luis Enrique.

The Argentina international is said to have been left frustrated when he was dropped to the bench for last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad.

In recent weeks, rumours have been rife that Chelsea are considering an audacious £200m bid for Messi, but Fabregas believes that his former teammate is happy in Spain.

"His situation has been made out to be worse than it really is," Fabregas told Onda Cero. "Messi is happy at Barcelona and the club's happy with him.

"I get a bad feeling about it when people are saying that I am trying to convince Messi to join Chelsea. What makes people think I can discuss contracts? I am just a footballer.

"Leo will do whatever makes him happy. As his friend and former teammate, it would be great if I get the chance to play with him again."

Reports have claimed that overall, Chelsea are willing to spend £500m on the 27-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the best footballers in the world.
