Liverpool and Bayern Munich are reportedly assessing whether to make an approach for a goalkeeper who has just been relegated from the Premier League.

The two European giants have just begun preparations for 2024-25 by confirming new head coaches after the departures of Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel.

Arne Slot has left Feyenoord to link up with Liverpool, while Vincent Kompany has made the switch from Burnley to the Allianz Arena.

A transitional period at both clubs is now inevitable, particularly after their respective new clubs finished in third place in the Premier League and Bundesliga.

While outfield players will be at the forefront of their minds, it is plausible that a new second-choice goalkeeper will need to be signed over the coming weeks.

Caoimhin Kelleher wants more first-team football, despite regularly deputising for Alisson Becker, while Bayern require a long-term successor to 38-year-old Manuel Neuer.

Trafford attracting more interest

According to Football Insider, Liverpool and Bayern are giving consideration to joining the race for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Kompany is no stranger to the England Under-21 international having signed him from former club Manchester City last summer, handing him 28 starts in the Premier League last season.

However, the Belgian did drop the 21-year-old from his team in March, creating doubt as to whether Trafford could expect regular game time at Bayern.

In the case of Liverpool, a move for Trafford would only materialise if Kelleher was sold, realistically for a similar fee given their respective profiles.

That figure is believed to be in the region of £20m, a marginal increase on the £19m that the Clarets shelled out after their Championship-title winning campaign.

Although Burnley do not necessarily have to cash in on Trafford, the likelihood is they will do so courtesy of the level of interest.

Premier League interest from elsewhere

Since the end of the season, it has been alleged that Trafford has been added to Chelsea's shortlist, with the assumption that it has been approved by Enzo Maresca ahead of his official unveiling as head coach.

Newcastle United have also been linked with Trafford at a time when Martin Dubravka has just one year left on his contract and Loris Karius has been released.

As it stands, it is unclear whether Trafford will show preference to regular first-team football or joining a high-profile club.
