Liverpool transfer news: Reds monitor English Salah alternative amidst contract uncertainty

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Bynoe-Gittens amidst uncertainty regarding the future of forward Mohamed Salah.

Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is reportedly of interest to Liverpool and a number of Premier League rivals such as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, with the clubs keeping an eye on the Englishman's development.

The 20-year-old followed in the footsteps of English talents Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho when he moved to Dortmund in 2020, and though he suffered a torn ligament injury in July 2021 and a serious shoulder injury in September 2022, the youngster appears to have bounced back stronger.

Bynoe-Gittens started 18 games for BVB last term, netting twice and registering four assists, while he has already has four goals and one assist this season despite starting just five times.

The attacker's gametime is still being carefully managed by his club given he has only completed 90 minutes once in 2024-25, against Celtic in the Champions League on October 1.

However, The Mirror claim that Arne Slot's Liverpool are monitoring Bynoe-Gittens with an eye on the contract situation of star Mohamed Salah, who has less than 12 months left on his current deal.

Bynoe-Gittens and Salah: Unfair expectations?

The Englishman has already had a significant positive impact on Dortmund's season considering he scored both of BVB's goals against Eintracht Frankfurt in his side's opening game of the league season.

Bynoe-Gittens also came off the bench late on against Club Brugge in the Champions League to score his side's first two goals in their 3-0 win on September 18.

However, while Liverpool are reportedly interested in seeing how the forward develops in light of the fact Mohamed Salah could leave for free at the end of the season, asking him to replicate Salah's output and influence at such an early stage of his career would be a big ask.

The Egyptian is averaging 1.19 goals and assists per 90 in the Premier League this term, a figure he has only bettered in the 2017-18 campaign when he broke the record for most goals scored in a 38-game season.

Federico Chiesa could potentially share minutes with Bynoe-Gittens were he to sign for the Reds, with the Italian forward having joined the club in the summer for a bargain fee of around £10m.

Liverpool's competition

Bynoe-Gittens has predominantly played on the left for Dortmund this season, and considering Liverpool already have several forwards who prefer coming in from the left such as Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz, it remains to be seen whether the Englishman would get the minutes needed to reach his full potential.

The Reds could look to move on the likes of Diaz, who has frequently been linked with a switch to Barcelona, but Liverpool are unlikely to want to lose any of their forwards should Salah leave the club for free.

Chelsea also have numerous forward options, including former Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, who appears to have cemented a starting spot on the left of attack.

Meanwhile, Spurs could be an attractive option given the age of star Son Heung-min and the inconsistencies of Timo Werner.

Regardless, Borussia Dortmund have a strong track record of developing young talent, and perhaps the Englishman is already in the best possible environment to continue his upward trajectory. body check tags ::
