Newcastle United have reportedly approached Chelsea over a loan move for Olivier Giroud.
The 33-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, having only made five Premier League appearances during the 2019-20 campaign.
Giroud has scored just once in seven outings at club level this term, while he has not even made the bench in the Premier League since the start of December.
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle made contact with Chelsea last week to discuss a loan move for the experienced striker, who will see his contract at Stamford Bridge expire this summer.
However, the report claims that the Magpies were informed that Giroud would not be allowed to leave until a replacement was signed, which is far from guaranteed.
The striker is allegedly determined to secure regular football in the second half of the campaign to ensure that he remains in France's plans for this summer's European Championships.
Giroud is also believed to be attracting interest from Serie A and Ligue 1.
