Paris Saint-Germain 'confident of beating Chelsea to Milan Skriniar deal'

Paris Saint-Germain are hopeful of beating Chelsea to the signature of Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar, according to a report.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly confident about their chances of winning the race for Chelsea-linked centre-back Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan.

The 27-year-old only has a year left to run on his deal with the Nerazzurri, who could be pressured into a summer sale before he walks away for free in 2023.

Inter's volatile financial situation could force them into accepting a cut-price fee for Skriniar, but the Italian giants are still thought to be driving a hard bargain for the Slovakia international.

PSG are reported to have seen a €50m (£42.9m) bid for Skriniar rejected by Simone Inzaghi's side, who are holding out for a fee closer to €70m (£60m) despite his contract situation.

However, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that PSG are progressing in their efforts to sign the centre-back, even if the two clubs are still some way off agreeing a fee.

Di Marzio claims that PSG are aware of Inter's need to boost their coffers this summer, but the Italian side are still determined to recoup as much money as possible for Skriniar.

Torino centre-back Bremer has supposedly emerged as Inter's first-choice replacement for Skriniar, who has made 215 appearances for the club since joining for a £30.6m fee from Sampdoria in 2017.

Skriniar has scored 11 goals and set up four more for the Milan side in that time, winning one Serie A title, one Coppa Italia and one Suppercoppa Italiana over the past five years.

The Slovakian's 2021-22 season saw him amass four goals from 48 outings in all tournaments, although Inzaghi's side failed to retain their Scudetto as AC Milan finished atop the pile.

Chelsea are rumoured to be competing with PSG for the signature of Skriniar, with the Blues losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen already this summer.

Thomas Tuchel's side have also been linked with a swoop for PSG's own Presnel Kimpembe, who worked under Tuchel's wing at the Parc des Princes and has remained a key player under Mauricio Pochettino.

Kimpembe's deal at PSG only has two years left to run, and the 26-year-old is keen to discuss his future role at the club following the arrival of new football advisor Luis Campos.

Clarifying earlier comments he made about imminent talks with the powers-that-be, Kimpembe told reporters: "I said that I was reaching 27 years of age and that my next contract would be decisive. I want to be able to know what the project of the club could be.

"I didn't say anything wrong. I joined the club when I was 9-10 years old. I think it's legitimate to ask your club about the future project and what role I am going to be given."

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest in Skriniar, who won the 2020-21 Serie A title under now-Lilywhites boss Antonio Conte.
