Rennes president Nicolas Holveck has confirmed that his club are in "discussions" with Chelsea over a potential move for Edouard Mendy during this summer's transfer window.
The speculation linking the 28-year-old with a move to Stamford Bridge has gathered pace in recent days, with the Blues thought to be closing in on a transfer.
Meanwhile, Rennes captain Damien Da Silva has suggested that his teammate is heading for the Premier League.
Holveck has revealed that the two teams are in talks but has denied reports that there has already been an agreement between all three parties.
"Discussions have started with Chelsea for Edouard Mendy," Holveck told reporters on Wednesday. "I can understand his desire, he told us. But for the moment, there is no agreement and for a transfer, we need an agreement of the three parties."
The Senegal international still has three years left to run on his current deal, placing the French side in a strong position when it comes to potential negotiations.
