Roma have reportedly withdrawn from the race to sign Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger before Monday's transfer deadline.
Having fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, Rudiger could leave the Blues on a season-long loan deal.
As well as Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, former club Roma have been linked with the Germany international.
However, according to The Athletic, the Italian outfit are unlikely to proceed with an official bid for the 27-year-old.
With just three central defenders on their books, Roma are eager to strengthen their options in the area as soon as possible.
I Giallorossi would prefer to sign Chris Smalling, providing that they can reach a compromise over a fee with Manchester United.
