Saga over: Serie A club announce signing of Chelsea midfielder

Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei has completed a permanent transfer to Torino.

The Italy Under-21 international has been heavily linked with a return to his homeland for over a month, it accepted by the player that his future would be away from Stamford Bridge.

While six appearances had been made in the EFL Cup and Conference League, Casadei failed to make a single Premier League outing during the first half of the season.

Widespread reports have suggested that Torino and Lazio have been battling for the 22-year-old's signature, both clubs having been regarded as favourites at different points in a drawn-out saga.

However, on Sunday morning, Torino formally announced that they have finalised a deal for the former Inter Milan youngster.

How much have Chelsea generated from Casadei sale?

Although a fee has not been disclosed, it has been reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that a €15m (£12.5m) package with a 15% sell-on clause had been agreed.

With Chelsea having paid a similar fee in August 2022, club officials will feel that the sale represents good business on the back of Casadei accumulating just 495 minutes of football across 17 appearances.

Casadei also made 40 outings across loan stints with Reading and Leicester City, but he was never in contention to establish himself as a first-team regular at Chelsea.

A four-and-a-half-year contract has been signed with Torino and he will come into contention for his debut in the February 8 fixture against Genoa.

Timely income for Chelsea?

Chelsea officials are in line for a busy 36 hours as they bid to facilitate a number of outgoings and potential incomings before Monday's transfer deadline.

As it stands, Renato Veiga has moved to Juventus on loan, with Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka the trio most likely to follow Casadei out of the door.

Disasi is attracting interest from Aston Villa, Chilwell is being targeted by Crystal Palace and a Bundesliga giant are eager to complete a deal for Chukwuemeka.

Whether Chelsea make any notable additions may be dependent on what opportunities arise during the closing moments of the transfer window. body check tags ::
