New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has insisted that Blues captain Gary Cahill still has a future with the club.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that Cahill was ready to leave Stamford Bridge this summer following the arrival of Sarri as head coach.
Chelsea's new boss revealed at his press conference that he will be looking to bring a new central defender to the capital outfit in this summer's transfer window.
However, the Italian also insisted that Cahill would be in his plans for the 2018-19 campaign.
"A number of English players is imposed [in the Premier League rules], so there will be English players. I never want to make these kind of distinctions – I don't want to discuss nationality. With respect to Cahill, I think he can still give us a lot," Sarri told reporters.
Cahill, who only has 12 months remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, has made 282 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since a move from Bolton Wanderers in 2012.
