Chelsea have announced the signing of Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino on a long-term contract.
Throughout the summer transfer window, the Blues have been heavily linked with the 19-year-old centre-back as they relentlessly add young talent to their squad.
Reports had indicated that Chelsea have been battling Manchester United for the signature of the prospect, who has made 10 appearances for Boca Juniors.
However, it soon became apparent that it was the West Londoners who had won the race having allegedly made a proposal worth $20m (£15.56m).
In the days after that claim, Anselmino, himself, confirmed that he was travelling to England to complete a transfer, hailing it as "a dream".
Although medicals were said to be conducted more than a week ago, Chelsea revealed on Thursday lunchtime that a deal had been finalised.
What is the contract length?
In keeping with the majority of their other contractual trends, Chelsea have presented Anselmino with terms that run until the end of 2030-31.
Previous reports had indicated that Anselmino will remain on loan at Boca Juniors for the remainder of 2024 with the Primera Division concluding in December.
Instead, Chelsea have stated that the youngster will spend the remainder of 2024-25 in his homeland, seemingly an indication that he will not arrive in England until next summer.
Anselmino has made just five appearances in all competitions this season, albeit two of them came in the Copa Sudamericana during the early part of the campaign.
Ninth signing of the summer
Including the acquisition of Estevao Willian, who will arrive from Palmeiras next summer, Chelsea have now made nine signings since the end of last season.
That is despite initial concerns regarding their position with the Premier League's and UEFA's financial regulations.
More fresh faces, including that of Atletico Madrid's Sam Omorodion, are expected in due course, but homegrown trio Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja are all expected to be sold for substantial fees in due course. body check tags ::
