Tottenham Hotspur's move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this month has reportedly collapsed, although the Lilywhites remain keen on the player.
The 23-year-old has been a regular part of Mauricio Pochettino's side this term, featuring in 20 Premier League matches, starting all of those and providing four assists.
Since returning from a loan spell at fellow top-flight outfit Crystal Palace in the summer of 2022, Gallagher has played in 71 games for the West London club, finding the net on three occasions.
The midfielder's performances have also seen him feature on the international stage in recent times, earning 11 England caps from Gareth Southgate after making his debut in November 2021.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham have given up hope of bringing Chelsea's Gallagher across the capital during the January transfer window.
The report claims that talks between Spurs and the Blues have now collapsed, meaning a potential deal in the next fortnight is off the cards.
It is understood that Pochettino wants to retain the services of Gallagher until the summer at least, with the former West Bromwich Albion loanee missing just one of his side's Premier League matches this season.
Although a transfer has failed to materialise this month, Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou remains a huge admirer of the player and would like to recruit him during the summer window.
It is believed that the Lilywhites will now focus on alternative options before trading slams shut at the end of the month, with Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips interesting the North Londoners.
The ex-Leeds United man is looking for a switch away from Pep Guardiola's side in the second half of the term as the midfielder aims to book his spot in Southgate's England squad for this summer's European Championships in Germany.
The treble-winning Citizens are said to be willing to offload Phillips on the temporary agreement until the end of the season, reportedly demanding a loan fee up to £6m.
It was reported last week that Spurs would consider recalling Tanguy Ndombele from his loan stint at Galatasaray should Postecoglou's side be unable to secure the services of Gallagher this month.
The Frenchman has only started four league contests for the Turkish giants so far in 2023-24 and could be open to coming back to the Premier League.
Spurs have been relatively busy in the winter transfer window so far, bringing Timo Werner to the club on loan from RB Leipzig, before sealing the permanent acquisition of Radu Dragusin from Genoa. body check tags ::
