Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago Mendes turned down the chance to rejoin Chelsea saying he received a 'great offer'.

After becoming a free agent at the end of last campaign, the Portuguese midfielder was offered a return to Stamford Bridge where he joined in 2004.

"At the end of last season, I received a great offer [from Chelsea] and it made me think about making a change," Tiago said, according to Sky Sports News.

"But I realised that the most important thing was to feel important at a club."

Tiago rejoined Diego Simeone's side after helping them secured the La Liga title last season.
