Colchester United manager Tony Humes has conceded that Kaspars Gorkss has probably played his last game for the club.
The defender's short-term contract is due to expire this week and at the age of 33, Humes believes that the Latvian is keen to play at higher level while he still can.
"I had talks with Kaspars last Wednesday. I think Kaspars is looking for an opportunity to play as high as he possibly can," Humes told the East Anglian Daily Times.
"We are going to renew talks on Monday, and see what happens, but you can't blame him for what he wants to try and do, because he is getting towards the end of his career, and he wants to give it a real go."
Gorkss has made six appearances for the League One strugglers.
