Tom Lapslie has signed a two-year contract extension with Colchester, committing himself to the club until 2021.
The 23-year-old youth academy graduate passed 100 Colchester appearances earlier this term with his performances earning the midfielder a fresh deal.
Director of football Tony Humes hailed Lapslie's development as typical of Colchester's thriving young talent.
"He is another of our youngsters that we hold in high regard, and he deserves his new contract for the good form he has shown again this season," said Humes.
Lapslie joined Colchester as a 15-year-old and admitted he had no hesitation in extending his stay.
"It was always my intention to stay here longer, and I'm pleased that the deal is done and dusted," said Lapslie.
"I'm looking forward to a successful second half of the season."
