Crewe on Thursday confirmed the suspension of youth coach Carl Everall for a safeguarding issue “totally unconnected” to the club.
The Guardian on Wednesday reported that Everall, a Crewe academy coach since 2013 and now the League Two club’s head of foundation, had been suspended pending an investigation. The Football Association has been notified of the matter.
Crewe on Wednesday said “all relevant and appropriate procedures have been followed” before issuing a further statement on Thursday.
A Crewe spokesperson said: “Crewe Alexandra Football Club can confirm that youth coach Carl Everall has been suspended.
“The reason for this suspension relates to a safeguarding issue which is totally unconnected with his role at Crewe Alexandra.
“The club also reaffirm that, as soon as it was made aware of the issue, it was dealt with immediately and the relevant and appropriate procedures were followed.
“It is not appropriate for the club to comment further.”
A FA spokesperson said on Wednesday: “This is a safeguarding and police matter so therefore The FA is not in a position to comment.”
A LinkedIn profile purporting to be Everall shows he joined Crewe in May 2013 and was appointed head of foundation in August 2017.
Press Association Sport has attempted to contact Everall for comment.
