Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Crystal Palace Women and Liverpool Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Two managerless sides will face off when Crystal Palace Women welcome Liverpool Women to the VBS Community Stadium for Sunday's Women's Super League clash.

The Eagles are languishing at the bottom of the WSL table, while Liverpool will head into matchday 15 in seventh position.

Match preview

Palace are searching for a new manager after they announced on Friday that they had made the "extremely difficult decision" to sack Laura Kaminski ahead of Sunday's clash against Liverpool.

Kaminski led the club to the Women's Championship title last term, but Palace have struggled to adapt to life in their first-ever WSL campaign.

The Eagles are languishing at the foot of the WSL table after winning one, drawing three and losing 10 of their 14 league games this season.

Palace have lost eight of their last 11 league matches since that result, including a 3-1 away loss to Manchester United in Kaminski's final game in charge before the international break, leaving them four points adrift of safety with eight games left to play.

If they are to avoid the drop, Palace know that they need to improve at both ends of the pitch given the fact that they are the league's joint second-lowest scorers with 12 goals and have the WSL's worst defensive record with 38 goals conceded.

Liverpool are currently looking for a permanent manager after they announced on Thursday that they had made the somewhat surprising decision to part ways with Matt Beard.

The 47-year-old, who won two WSL titles in his first stint as Liverpool boss, returned to the club in the summer of 2021, leading the club to promotion in his first season back, before overseeing seventh and fourth-place finishes in the WSL.

Beard has left Liverpool in seventh place in the WSL table after overseeing four wins, three draws and seven defeats in 14 top-flight matches, including a heavy 4-0 loss in his final match against Manchester City before the international break.

Beard's assistant Amber Whiteley has taken over the reins on a temporary basis, with the interim boss tasked with ending Liverpool's four-game winless away league run in her first game in charge.

The Reds will certainly know that a win is far from a foregone conclusion against a struggling Palace side after they were held to a 1-1 home draw in October's reverse fixture.

Team News

Palace are unable to call upon Aimee Everett and Hayley Nolan, while it remains to be seen whether Chelsea loanee Aniek Nouwen will be available for selection.

Allyson Swaby is set to retain her place in the backline after making her first WSL start in Palace's final game before the international break.

Katie Stengel, who sat out Palace's defeat to Man United, will hope to be ready to take her place in the side against her former club.

As for the visitors, they are expected to be without the services of Niamh Fahey, Sofie Lundgaard and Leanne Kiernan.

Defender Hannah Silcock is unlikely to be involved after missing the last five competitive matches with a knee problem.

Jasmine Matthews should feature in the matchday squad following her return to full training over the international break.

Crystal Palace Women possible starting lineup:
Majsaari; Green, Swaby, Veje, Woodham; Cato, Gejl, Potter, Riley; Stengel, Weerden

Liverpool Women possible starting lineup:
Micah; Fisk, Clark, Evans; Parry, Hobinger, Kerr, Holland, Hinds; Enderby, Smith

We say: Crystal Palace Women 1-3 Liverpool Women

Liverpool may have struggled in recent WSL road trips, but their league position compared to the Eagles suggests that they should have the extra quality to get the better of a Palace side that have lost five of their six home league games this season.
