Roy Hodgson has admitted that "any goal would have been a good one" to end Crystal Palace's goal drought after getting off the mark in the Premier League this season.

The Eagles were pointless and goalless ahead of last weekend's clash with Chelsea, but two strikes saw them claim a shock 2-1 win over the English champions.

Palace's opener in the Selhurst Park win went down as an own goal from Cesar Azpilicueta, but despite Hodgson describing it as a "shame", he knows that they all count.

"We hadn't scored in seven games, there's been all the furore that surrounds it and that you've lost all seven, so any goal would have been a good one really," the former England manager told Sky Sports News.

"I think it's a shame to put it down as an own goal because it was a provoked own goal which, had Azpilicueta not got the touch, I think it would have gone in anyway.

"I thought as Yohan [Cabaye] burst past David Luiz that this was it, he was going to blast one into the net and we'd be one up. When that didn't happen and the ball took a deflection, there seemed to be a period of tension before it actually crossed the line."
