Alan Pardew takes "no satisfaction" from leapfrogging Newcastle United

Alan Pardew stresses that he is only concerned about where Crystal Palace finish in the Premier League this season, rather than the efforts of former club Newcastle.

Alan Pardew has insisted that he takes "no satisfaction" from seeing Crystal Palace overtake his former side Newcastle United in the Premier League table.

When the Englishman took over at Selhurst Park at the turn of the year, returning to a club he once played for, the Eagles found themselves 10 points behind Newcastle.

However, last weekend's 2-1 victory over Stoke City was enough for Palace to leapfrog the Magpies into 12th place.

"It gives me no satisfaction, and I mean that with all of my heart, that we are above them," ESPN quotes Pardew as saying. "I think my record at Newcastle speaks for itself.

"I was manager of the year there just three or four years ago so I don't need to talk about that. I can understand why some of the media would think that because of the way I left the football club.

"But the fact is the results we have had here have been terrific and I am really pleased with the progress the club is making. That's what your focus is as a manager. You don't look back."

Palace will look to continue their impressive charge up the table when they face Manchester City on Monday night, while Newcastle take on arch-rivals Sunderland later today.
