Crystal Palace miss the chance to move into second having been held 1-1 by Huddersfield.

Crystal Palace have missed the chance to move back into the top two of the Championship after drawing 1-1 with Huddersfield in a match that saw both teams reduced to 10 men.

The hosts suffered an early blow when Damien Delaney was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on Jermaine Beckford after just 11 minutes.

Huddersfield should have taken immediate advantage of their numerical advantage when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Sean Scannell. Adam Clayton stepped up, but his spot kick was straight down the middle allowing Julian Speroni to save it.

Speroni was on hand to rescue his side once again just three minutes later, this time denying Beckford with a fine save.

Glenn Murray had Palace's first real chance of the half when he latched on to Jack Hunt's poor backpass before rounding the keeper, but he couldn't squeeze his shot in from a tight angle.

Palace wouldn't have to wait too much longer to take the lead, however, as Wilfried Zaha smashed Yannick Bolasie's flick on past the keeper.

Huddersfield eventually equalised with 15 minutes of the match left when Palace failed to clear a corner, resulting in Keith Southern's strike going through Beckford and Speroni and into the net.

The visitors lost their extra man with 10 minutes to play when Anthony Gerrard was given his marching orders.

Neither side could find a winner in the closing stages, however, as Huddersfield held on for a good point.
