A last-gasp penalty save from Julian Speroni earns Crystal Palace a goalless draw against Burnley in their Premier League match at Selhurst Park.

Julian Speroni produced a crucial late penalty save to earn Crystal Palace a point from their Premier League clash with Burnley this afternoon.

In Neil Warnock's first home game in charge since returning to the club, the Eagles were indebted to Speroni as they escaped with a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park.

It was the hosts who looked most dangerous at the start of the game, as Palace defender Scott Dann leapt highest to meet Frazier Campbell's cross, but his headed effort crashed back off the crossbar.

Wilfried Zaha threatened early on and he showed great feet to get into an advanced position, only to see his shot hit straight at a grateful Tom Heaton in the Burnley goal.

Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon was next to try to break the deadlock as the home side continued to dominate, but he shot straight at the keeper from distance before striker Dwight Gayle blazed over from the centre of the box.

A quiet Burnley side were restricted to shots from distance in the first 45 minutes, with Lukas Jutkiewicz feeding new signing George Boyd, who shot straight into a Palace defender.

Mile Jedinak might have put Palace into the lead just before the break, but the home captain sent his header wide of the post after being picked out by Puncheon.

Warnock's men started the second half much like they had done the first, with Damien Delaney glancing a header just wide of the goal, while Puncheon lashed an effort into the side-netting.

Scott Arfield looked most threatening for the away side, who defended resolutely, with the midfielder seeing his shot saved well by Speroni, while another effort from distance flew just over the bar.

The two were to square up again in the decisive moment of the game as Jutkiewicz was brought down inside the box by Jedinak, leaving Speroni to pull off a one-handed diving stop to prevent Arfield from converting from the spot in the final 10 minutes.
