Elche have eased their La Liga relegation worries by picking up three valuable points against Celta Vigo.
It was the home side who came closer to making the breakthrough in the early stages, as Edu Albacar's effort from a free kick came crashing back off the crossbar with the keeper beaten.
Santi Mina almost fired the visitors ahead with 31 minutes played, but his strike was well saved by Manu Herrera to keep the scoreline level in an evenly contested 45 minutes.
Herrera was repeatedly called into action in the second half, and his save to deny Fabian Orellana proved to be decisive with Carles Gil finding a late winner for Elche after slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
