The turn-out could be the biggest attendance ever for a women's match in the country.

England Women's friendly clash with Germany at Wembley next month has sold out.

The record attendance for a Lionesses home fixture – currently the 45,619 at the previous meeting between the sides, at Wembley in 2014 – is set to be smashed at the game on November 9.

And the turn-out could be the biggest attendance ever for a women's match in the country.

Currently that figure is 80,023, set when the United States secured gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games by beating Japan 2-1 at Wembley, which has a capacity of 90,000.

Football Association director of women's football Sue Campbell said: "This is a magnificent show of support for the squad and staff after a tremendous year of progress for the England team. My thanks go to everyone who has bought a ticket as we never take such support for granted.

"We started the year with success at the SheBelieves Cup, had a wonderful World Cup including securing Olympic qualification and it is only fitting that we get to end 2019 on a high – and can also say our own thank you to those who have backed us all the way.

"What will make it even more special is to see everyone who has bought a ticket turn up on the day to help smash the all-time record on English soil. My message to them is to come and be a part of history."

Having won the four-team SheBelieves Cup in March, Phil Neville's England came fourth at the Women's World Cup during the summer. Finishing as one of the top three European sides at the tournament in France secured qualification for a Great Britain team, which Neville is set to manage, at next year's Tokyo Olympics.

The 2-1 semi-final defeat to the USA was, according to the BBC, watched by a peak TV audience of 11.7million, a UK record figure for women's football.

Since the World Cup, England – Euro 2021 hosts – have played four friendlies, a 3-3 draw with Belgium in Leuven, 2-1 losses to Norway in Bergen and Brazil at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium, and then a 1-0 away win against Portugal.
