Former England international Joey Barton has criticised Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson following his national side's 1-1 draw against Russia in Euro 2016 on Saturday.

Eric Dier opened the scoring at Marseille's Stade Velodrome with a free kick, but a late header from Vasili Berezutski saw Russia grab a point.

Barton, currently on commentating duties for talkSPORT, described Hodgson as an "energy vampire" who always "reverts to type by switching to negative football".

The Rangers midfielder also criticised England's coaching setup on Twitter, posting: "England's problem is not the players they played well tonight. It's the coaches and manager so so negative with substitutions.

"Game was crying out for Vardy. Should have been on after 1st goal when Russia had to attack. To stretch them and put game to bed. 2 points dropped tonight."

England face Wales and Slovakia in their remaining group games in France.
