England manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Phil Jagielka will captain the Three Lions in their final Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania on Monday evening.
The Everton defender has never skippered the country in his 36 previous international appearances, but will wear the armband with Wayne Rooney and Gary Cahill both missing.
"I'm obviously delighted that Roy came and found me and broke the news," Jagielka told reporters. "It's a great honour for me personally.
"We've got a big task ahead of us tomorrow and it's something we can be proud of. We started this campaign a while ago and the job was to try to win every single game.
"Normally you say that and probably not a lot of people expect you to do so but we've got some great performances along the way."
England will be looking to maintain their perfect record in qualifying with a 10th straight win in Group E.
