Aldo Simoncini: 'San Marino hoping to not get hammered'

Goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini reveals that San Marino's target in their Euro 2016 qualifier against England is to avoid humiliation.

San Marino goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini has confessed that the best his side can hope for from their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against England "is not getting hammered".

The minnows, who have won just one international match in their history, have conceded 19 goals in their six Group E qualifying matches so far.

Five of those goals were shipped against the Three Lions at Wembley and ahead of the return meeting in Serravalle on Saturday, Simoncini conceded that San Marino have no chance of causing an upset.

"The result is the last thing I think about. When I go out onto the pitch, I concentrate on doing the best I possibly can. Basically, the best we can hope for is not getting hammered," he told 888sport.com

"Against Estonia, we drew 0-0 and I kept a clean sheet. For me, that was more than a victory. To keep a clean sheet at our level is a miracle. At this level, the margins are so much bigger. We try to do our best, but we're realistic. We value the performance at the end."

England have won all five of their previous meetings with San Marino, scoring 31 goals and conceding just one in the process.
