Raheem Sterling reveals that he was elated to get off the mark in international football as he netted his first goal for England in their 4-0 win over Lithuania.

Raheem Sterling has admitted that he was thrilled to score his first international goal in England's 4-0 win over Lithuania at Wembley.

The 20-year-old notched his first strike for the Three Lions in his 14th cap when he converted Wayne Rooney's cross into the net in the 58th minute, as Roy Hodgson's men made it five wins out of five in their qualifying campaign.

"It was a great team performance and I'm just happy the team came out of the blocks well and got the first goal and everything else followed," Sterling told the FA's official website.

"It's been a long time coming to get my first goal, but I'm really happy and hopefully I can continue this with England.

"I watched this stadium get built, so it was obviously pleasing to score at Wembley, it will live with me for a long time."

Hodgson has conceded that Sterling and Danny Welbeck are likely to miss England's friendly clash against Italy on Tuesday.
