Jack Wilshere has claimed that England could only do the job that they needed to do during the 5-0 thrashing of San Marino in Euro 2016 qualifying on Thursday night.
On a night when Roy Hodgson's side were fully expected to cruise to a comfortable win, Wilshere believes that the players could not have produced much more than they did against the minnows at Wembley.
"We did what we had to do," the Arsenal midfielder told ITV. "We knew we would win, it was just a matter of keeping going. Once we scored we knew we could get a few.
"We showed them respect. I enjoy getting forward and it was nice. It wasn't against one of the best nations in the world but we had a job to do and we did it."
England return to action against Estonia on Sunday when they will be looking to make it three wins from three in Group E.
