With an overall penalty shootout success rate of just 33%, England's reputation for crumbling when it matters most in major tournaments is not entirely unwarranted.
However, the Three Lions were unerring from the spot during their Euro 2024 quarter-final win over Switzerland, firing home all five of their penalties to book their place in the semis.
It may have only been their fourth triumph from 12 previous shootouts, but three of those victories have now come from the last four times they have been taken all the way to penalties, and all of them have come under Gareth Southgate - a man who knows all about heartache from 12 yards.
Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney and Trent Alexander-Arnold all converted against Switzerland, with three of those extending their 100% career records from the spot.
In fact, number one penalty-taker Harry Kane only has the 13th best success rate in the entire England squad when it comes to percentage scored, although he has taken far more than any other player at Southgate's disposal.
