Tony Brown: 'Saido Berahino must embrace England call-up'

Tony Brown, West Bromwich Albion's record appearance holder, urges Said Berahino to keep his feet firmly on the ground following his England call-up.

West Bromwich Albion legend Tony Brown has warned Saido Berahino not to get carried away having earned his first senior England call-up.

The 20-year-old striker, who has scored seven goals in 10 games for the Baggies this season, was yesterday named in the Three Lions' squad for the upcoming games against Slovenia and Scotland.

However, West Brom's record appearance holder has urged the youngster to keep his feet firmly on the ground in order to maintain his current standards.

"I'm pleased for him," Brown is quoted as saying by the Birmingham Mail. "He has scored goals, it's as simple as that, and if you're good enough you're old enough in my eyes. I think he thoroughly deserves it.

"Whether he will play I don't know, but the experience of being in the full squad will benefit him and if he does play he has to embrace it. At any stage of your career you have to keep your feet on the ground because once you get carried away you lose the basics about what you're supposed to do.

"You have to keep a level all the time and a standard you want to keep at - and that is your aim throughout your career. The longer you stay at that level, the better it is."

Brown made 574 appearances for West Brom during his 17 years at The Hawthorns, while he represented England on one occasion.
