Gary Cahill cannot wait to see how England hold up in upcoming friendlies with France and Spain.

England defender Gary Cahill is relishing upcoming friendlies with Spain and France, insisting that such tests will provide a better barometer of the Three Lions' quality.

Roy Hodgson's men look on course to complete their Euro 2016 qualification campaign with a 100% record after beating Estonia 2-0 on Friday for their ninth straight win.

With the Estonians and Slovenia wrestling for a playoff spot in third, Cahill acknowledges that England cannot get carried away by their domination of Group E and says that both friendlies next month should provide a better assessment.

"I think it will give a good marker for us," he said to Sky Sports News. "We have work to do and we need to improve to have a chance in the summer, but we have done pretty well since the World Cup.

"They [the two matches] will be a good test. If we win them, great. If we don't, we have to take things from them. They will be tough, but they are ones we are looking forward to.

"We don't get carried away. The squad is changing with injuries but everyone is buying in to the philosophy of how the manager and staff want to play and it is working well, so long may that continue."

Victory over Lithuania on Monday would see Cahill and co finish the campaign with maximum points.

They travel to la Roja to play Spain on November 13, before hosting the French at Wembley four days later.
