Jamie Carragher has described having a foreign manager in charge of England as "embarrassing".
The Liverpool defender worked under Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson in the national setup and was also a surprise selection by Italian Fabio Capello to go to last year's World Cup.
Despite his caps under overseas bosses, the 33-year-old believes that an Englishman should manage England.
"If your manager's not good enough, that's your country's fault," he told The Mirror. "Get a better manager. Do the coaching qualification better.
"I think it's a form of cheating at international football and to be honest it's a little bit embarrassing."
Capello will step down from his position after the Euro 2012 tournament, with Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp rumoured to be a possible replacement.
