Prime Minister David Cameron condemns FIFA's decision to ban England from wearing poppies on their shirts against Span at Wembley on Saturday.

Prime Minister David Cameron has blasted FIFA's decision to ban England from having poppies sewn into their shirts for the friendly against Spain at Wembley this weekend.

The governing body has caused controversy over their decision to snub the poppy, which they say would break the rule stating that changes to the kit that could cause political or religious preference are not permitted.

"This seems outrageous," said Cameron. "The idea that wearing a poppy to remember those who have given their lives for our freedom is a political act is absurd.

"Wearing a poppy is an act of huge respect and national pride. I hope FIFA will reconsider."

Although the English Football Association tried to appeal the ban, FIFA announced yesterday that the ruling still stood.
