Leicester City's Danny Drinkwater: 'I can show England what I'm capable of'

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater says that he will try to show England boss Roy Hodgson what he is "capable of" after receiving his first senior call-up.

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has claimed that he will try to show England manager Roy Hodgson what he is "capable of" after being called into the squad for friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands.

The 26-year-old received his first senior call-up last week due to his impressive form in Leicester's Premier League title campaign.

The Foxes have a five-point lead at the top of the table, with seven games left to play in the season, but Drinkwater has insisted that he is focused on England this week.

"I have been given a small chance here to show what I am capable of and it is up to me to take it," the Daily Mail quotes Drinkwater as saying. "If I do, I'll be hoping that if I can stake my claim for that position, then perfect.

"It is about doing your job, really, screening the defence. Obviously international football is going to be different, I understand that. Maybe as the ball turns over, you have look to keep it but I am looking forward to the challenge.

"I don't think England have been short of having a quality midfield but I guess having competition for places, it always helps push yourself in a way. It can only benefit us."

England are preparing for Euro 2016, which gets underway on June 10 in France.
