Steven Gerrard: 'England better now than in 2010'

England captain Steven Gerrard insists that the Three Lions are "a lot stronger" than they were when they suffered a 4-1 World Cup defeat to Germany in 2010.

England skipper Steven Gerrard has insisted that there will not be a repeat of their 4-1 2010 World Cup defeat to Germany when the two countries face off again at Wembley on Tuesday.

The Three Lions were given a hammering by Joachim Low's side in the last 16 of the tournament in South Africa, but Gerrard believes that England are a much-improved team now under Roy Hodgson.

"I'd say we are better," Gerrard told reporters. "If we were to meet Germany tomorrow in a World Cup situation, I don't think we'd leave the pitch having lost 4-1.

"I do feel as if we're a lot stronger. There is a good mix of youth and experienced players in the squad at the moment who are all moving forward and improving all the time."

Hodgson has already named his starting lineup for England's clash against their old rivals, with Gerrard captaining a side that includes his Liverpool teammate Daniel Sturridge and Southampton's Adam Lallana.
