England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed his delight that Wayne Rooney recovered quickly enough from the gash he picked up against Fulham to play in England's October internationals.
Hodgson said that he feared Rooney would miss the games in October with the injury, but the striker has recovered and will captain England tomorrow night against San Marino.
"I'm really pleased [that Rooney is now available]," Hodgson said. "I enjoyed working with Wayne, we had a good Euros.
"I was worried when he picked up that gash that he would be out for the September games and also the October ones.
"Luckily he has made a very quick recovery and is available for the October games and he will certainly captain the first one."
Rooney has 29 goals in 76 games for England.
