England boss Roy Hodgson hopes to see Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard take up coaching roles with the Three Lions at some point in the future.

England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that he would jump at the chance to have Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard on his coaching staff in the future.

The legendary midfielders finish their illustrious Premier League careers this weekend before jetting off to the MLS in the summer.

Liverpool captain Gerrard and Chelsea legend Lampard - on loan at Manchester City from New York City FC - have won 18 major trophies between them, along with a combined 220 England caps.

Hodgson expects their former clubs to be the duo's first port of call should they enter coaching, but the Three Lions boss hopes to see the pair pass on their wisdom in the England setup too.

"Probably, yes," he said when asked by reporters if Gerrard and Lampard could return to the international scene in a coaching capacity.

"Before that, I'm sure the first people who will try to get hold of them when they return will be Liverpool and Chelsea. I'm pretty sure of that. But who's to say they can't be members in an English setup as well?

"They certainly know England. They've both had 100 caps. But it's not only their playing ability. It's their leadership qualities. They're both leaders."

Liverpool face Stoke City at the Britannia this weekend, while Manchester City host Southampton at the Etihad.
