Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy is hopeful that the club's promotion back to the Premier League will help him to earn an England recall.

Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy has set his sights on a recall to the England setup following the club's promotion back to the Premier League.

The Canaries booked a return to the top flight at the first time of asking at Wembley on Monday, with Ruddy keeping a clean sheet in front of Roy Hodgson in a 2-0 Championship playoff final victory over Middlesbrough.

Ruddy acknowledged that dropping down to the Championship harmed his international chances but, with current squad members Robert Green and Tom Heaton also moving down to the second tier next season and Ben Foster sidelined with a knee injury, he is hopeful of regaining his place.

"I didn't focus on England at all this year. I knew playing in the Championship I wouldn't be doing myself any favours," the 28-year-old is quoted as saying by PA.

"My main aim was to get back into the Premier League and then knock on the door for that. We've done that and that starts on August 8. Congratulations to Tom, I thought he deserved to be called up for the last squad, he was unlucky but he has got the call up for the summer and he's a fantastic keeper.

"I'm delighted for him. He has done very well for Burnley this season but himself and Rob Green are now dropping down to the Championship."

Ruddy won his one and only England cap so far against Italy in 2012.
