Martin Keown believes that Everton defender Phil Jagielka still has a role to play with England.
The Toffees captain returned to the international fold for England's friendly draw with Italy on Tuesday evening, having been left out by Roy Hodgson for the win over Lithuania last Friday.
Former Everton and England centre-back Keown believes that Jagielka was the best defender on show for his country against the Azzurri.
"Jagielka was left out against Lithuania, but showed he should still be first-choice," Keown told the Daily Mail.
"He had a couple of hairy moments, but still looked the best defender on show in Turin, weighing in with countless clearances and blocks. He also reads the game very well."
Jagielka has won 35 caps for England.
