England Under-21s boss Gareth Southgate is confident that Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse will get his chance to prove himself at senior level in the near future.
The 20-year-old was not included in Roy Hodgson's latest England squad as Tottenham Hotspur's Dele Alli, who joined the Premier League club in the summer, was preferred.
"Roy's view is that Dele is a different profile of player to James, but James is still somebody that I know Roy likes a lot," the Daily Star quotes Southgate as saying.
"The seniors is a realistic long-term goal for a lot of our lads. How long that takes is a case-by-case basis, but for James that can still be a realistic mid-term target for him."
Ward-Prowse has been part of Southampton's senior setup up since 2011.
