Former England international Chris Waddle has insisted that Ryan Shawcross would have a place in the current Three Lions squad if he played for Arsenal.
The Stoke City defender has earned just one England cap during his career, despite gaining plaudits for his performances in the Premier League last season.
The retired winger told BBC Radio 5 live: "I was at Manchester City last weekend [to see Stoke win 1-0]. If Ryan Shawcross had joined Arsenal in the summer instead of [Calum] Chambers, he would be in the England squad now.
"And I say get [Jonjo] Shelvey involved. There's a qualifying tournament starting. Don't leave him watching it on TV in Swansea.
"Someone asked me before, why doesn't Roy Hodgson go to Swansea, because he doesn't want to pay the fare to go across the Bridge? There's the M50 so he can cut the corner if he likes."
England beat Norway 1-0 in a friendly at Wembley last night.
