Harry Kane concedes that England are "not the finished article" following their 2-0 loss to Belgium in their World Cup third-place playoff encounter.

Harry Kane has conceded that England are "not the finished article" following their 2-0 loss to Belgium in their World Cup third-place playoff encounter in St Petersburg.

In addition, the Three Lions captain is eager to ensure that another semi-final placing at a major tournament is not another 20 years away.

Thomas Meunier opened the scoring for the Red Devils on four minutes and a lethargic England side could not muster a response before Eden Hazard made sure of victory eight minutes from time.

Prior to Russia 2018, England last reached the semi-finals of a major tournament at Euro '96, while the previous last-four finish at a World Cup was at Italia '90.

"This game showed there is still room for improvement," Kane told ITV Sport. "We're not the finished article, we're still improving and will only get better.

"We don't want to wait another 20 years to get into the semi-finals and the big matches. We need to improve, we need to get better but that will come.

"We have made huge strides. Now it is about resting up and getting ready for the next season."

England's next fixture is on September 8 in the UEFA Nations League against Spain.
