Sylvain Distin has said that Everton's defenders will have no problem adapting to Roberto Martinez's plans.
The new Toffees manager often opted to use three central defenders while in charge of Wigan Athletic.
The 35-year-old told the club's official website: "It's something we've done before. I think we played two or three games further back [in time] with David Moyes and it was okay.
"It's just a matter of habit. If we work at it in training, I don't see why we will not be able to do it. We've got intelligent players here so it should be fine."
Martinez will take charge of an Everton match for the first time when they face Austria Vienna on Sunday.
